Zack’s Master Shad Fly Size 6
Zack designed this pattern while working at Powell's (Chico Fly Shop at the time) after tying hundreds of shad for the shop. The first commercial fly-tying order Zack had was for Frank Duarte (famous Guide) and he had me tie orange bow strings on hot orange jig heads that he used for his guide trips. The jig heads were getting harder to find, so I took a 3/16" hot orange bead and tied it on a Mustad 34007. This was easier for people to cast on a fly rod. The body is tied with hot gold Stren (monofilament) fishing line which I got the idea from another shad that I was tying for the shop at the time. The final product was a combination of the two.
