Otis Bug Brown Size 4
The Otis Bug is a staple on the Rogue River in Southern Oregon. I always have a Rubber Legs tied on while guiding the Lower Sacramento. The Lower Sacramento has a good population of Salmon, Golden and Skwala stoneflies. The Otis Bug is a “Guide Fly”, that plain works, especially in off colored water. These flies are tied to my specifications. I use a TMC 5262 rather than a TMC 5263 hook. The TMC 5262 is a shorter shank hook. The larger Otis Bugs are tied on a size 4 and the smaller are tied on a size 6. The bigger hook sizes have the same shank length as the TMC 5263 but give you a larger hook gap. These Otis Bug are weighted heavily, the complete shank is .025 non-toxic lead wire with a Hot Orange Tungsten Bead. When you stick a big river rainbow with a size 4 Rubber Legs fly – he or she isn’t coming off!!
The Otis Bug is tied to represent the Pteronarcys Californica, Aka the “Salmon Fly Stone”. These are big stoneflies. They are usually a deep dark brown when living in the river.
